Human Nature, explained 2 me.
One very cold winter day, in a far away life of mine, I was running a crew of about 4 men, on a Large clay tile roof replacement project in Florida. My project manager showed up, and was checking on the overall progress of the job, he asked
me to show him what my crew was up to, we had to climb up a 40 ft. extension ladder to get to where my guys were putting down ice and water shield, (roofing underlayment), on our way up we saw the other crew through a second story window,
inside a vacant unit, the boss was smoking a cigar, and the rest were eating doughnuts, morning break had been over for almost an hour.
When we reached the roof, I said to my project manager, did you see that? He said, you mean the guys on the second floor? I said yeah, you gonna have a talk with them? Why should I he goes. I said, well him and his guys should be working, they're getting paid hourly, just like me and my guys.
He scratched his head a bit, and said, as cold and windy as it is today John, that's just human nature.
I said oh, ok, so why shouldn't me and my guys goof off half the day also? Well, he goes, then we'd probably lose money on the job, I need you working!
Glad you straightened that out for me, I said. Then I scratched MY head.
